Finding ways to connect others & missing Marley

Posted in Marcine Adams |

Today I enjoyed going to the primary grades and presenting the opportunity to connect with students in Chicago. I think this would be a great experience for students in Croatia to get to practice their english and Chicago students to get to know more about another country. Getting to shop today for gifts for family members back home took a lot of stress off of me because you never know what people really want you to bring back for them. It is very nice how much the Croatian students help us to find what we are looking for and I am enjoying getting to know them better each day. I hope we can keep up communication once back in the states! Throughout Varazdin I am seeing many dogs and it is making me miss my dog Marley very much! The dogs here are so behaved and stays close to their owner! My dog would run away and make me chase after her. :)

My visit to kindergarten

Posted in Marcine Adams |

.      Today I really enjoyed getting to go to the kindergarten. The children were so precious and the teachers really enjoyed what they were doing. The teachers were very proud of the philosophy they followed and one can tell by the environment that the students are excelling. It made me miss my mother’s day care by in America because it reminded me of the love she has for all her students at the day care. Everyone did very well on his or her presentations and I can’t wait to go to Dubrovnik! The salsa dancing was great and everyone seemed to really enjoy him or herself. The children did a great job and it was such a great experience to see them dance. Everyone in Croatia has welcomed us with open arms and our program is truly blessed to have met all of them!

Continuing to Enjoy Croatia

Posted in Marcine Adams |

.      My time in Croatia continues to be a very memorable experience. Getting to take a bike tour through Varazdin helped me to better understand how people got around and how strong all their legs must be! Everyone here really challenges us to do things that are different than in America and this makes it a very rewarding experience. Getting to go to the sports center was great because I was able to give cheerleading advice that I think they appreciated! Everyone at the sports center was very nice and it was such a beautiful place. I enjoyed getting to see everything it had to offer and that the owner would let us come whenever we would like. The river we biked to was beautiful and I will never look at the word Chicago the same after the game we played! Getting to watch the Euro Cup soccer game this evening in the square was very fun. I enjoyed getting to know the Croatian students better and getting to spend more time with them!

Day one in Varaždin

Posted in Marcine Adams |

.     After a very long fourteen-hour journey to Croatia I have arrived! When I walked out of the airport I was greeted with a very warm welcome by FOI and UCF scholars, which made me forget how tired I was and how excited I am to be here! Everyone I have met thus far in Croatia are amazing. The city of Varazdin has such a rich history and the people here are so kind. I am so blessed to be able to be apart of this special experience and I am looking forward to the days to come! I am presenting tomorrow and looking forward to the advice/ suggestions/comments fellow scholars will have for me on my presentation about Technology in Education. The only struggle I have is deciding how to get Croatian currency, whether it should be taken from an ATM or currency exchange? Let alone how much will last me two weeks! My decision will come in the next blog! Goodnight Croatia!

2 days and counting….

Posted in Marcine Adams |

.      I have never been abroad let alone Croatia so there are many thoughts running through my mind. I heard Croatia is supposed to be beautiful and the people are supposed to be very nice. I hear soccer is a big thing around the time were going so I am wondering if Croatian fans are just as crazy as Americans. I was advised by others to go to the beach and to visit the historic cities. I am ready to be amazed by the towns that do not allow cars, only bikes, unlike Chicago where people take turns at 40 mph.

I am also looking forward to meeting everyone that will be a part of this amazing experience! I think the new relationships I will make from this trip will be very meaningful and will be something I will never forget. I am looking forward to getting to know my cohort better and getting to learn more about them as individuals. I hope to learn more about what everyone is researching and the great advice and tips they will have for me.

Also, I can’t wait to explore the cities and see the culture. I can’t wait to find out what types of food there will be and shops for gifts to bring back to my family. I hope to be able to see as much as I can in the two weeks and take full advantage of this amazing opportunity I have been given. I can’t wait to experience Croatia with McNair and I hope Croatia is ready for me! :)
